World of Possibilities

Events Introduce Students to Unconventional Accounting Careers, Skills

Career prospects after earning an accounting degree don't have to be cookie cutter, with the C. T. Bauer College of Business hosting several events this semester to show students what job possibilities are available.

On Oct. 22, Bauer College will host its Accounting: Beyond the Numbers event, which will connect current students with Bauer alumni who are certified public accountants working in less conventional accounting paths like IT audit and forensic. The event will take place in CBB and give accounting students dedicated networking time.

“It’s one thing for students to hear advice from advisors or faculty, but when it comes from alumni, it can feel more real and attainable,” Director of Accounting Advising and Career Development Tiffany Woods said. “Hearing from alumni who once stood where they are now helps them envision themselves successfully navigating their own paths.”

Woods suggests students attend this event to learn more about what non-traditional roles they could take on.

“The goal of this event is to show students that there's more to accounting than just tax or audit or industry,” she added. “The CPA can open so many different doors. It's just a matter of which doors they choose.”

On Nov. 11, Bauer alumna Anais Babajanian (BBA ’13, MSACCY ’14) will lead an interactive virtual workshop called Accelerate Your Accounting Career with AI: The Strategic Edge. The event will focus on teaching current students how to appropriately use artificial intelligence in their workplace.

As the accounting industry quickly changes, Woods says this is a relevant topic for students to focus on.

“Employers today expect graduates to know how to use AI from day one,” Woods said. “So many people are using AI, but they may or may not know how to use it correctly. The goal of this workshop is to show students how to use AI as a strategic tool. Overall, these events are about helping students build connections as well as career confidence.”

Students interested in attending Accounting: Beyond the Numbers and Accelerate Your Accounting Career with AI should RSVP online.
