What Recruiters Want

RCC Career Launch Kicks Off Recruiting Season at Bauer College

On a day dedicated to networking and building connections, recruiters across multiple different industries come to Melcher Hall to meet with C. T. Bauer College of Business students at the Rockwell Career Center (RCC) Fall 2026 Career Launch.

At this pre-recruiting event, nearly 500 Bauer students put on their nicest suits, polished their résumés and prepared to make a good first impression on potential employers before the highly anticipated fall RCC Career Fair, scheduled for Sept. 18.

"We are incredibly proud of the strong student participation and professionalism demonstrated throughout the event," RCC Executive Director Kelly Collins said. "The turnout reflects our students' commitment to career readiness and their enthusiasm for engaging with employers early in the recruiting cycle."

Nearly 100 recruiters participated in the event, with a majority looking for finance and accounting students, along with those interested in entrepreneurship, management, marketing, management information systems and supply chain management majors.

Here, recruiters share their top tips to helping students stand out in today’s job market.

“Show them your personality. It’s one thing to have the work ethic and experience, but showing them what kind of person you are helps in building those connections with recruiters.” - Grant Boudreaux, Business Finance Analyst

“When I was younger, I didn't have any professional experience and had only worked as a server. I used that to tell recruiters that I have really good customer service, and I can talk to people easily. Take what you learn in other jobs and turn them into skills you can use in your professional career. Be confident in what you know.”

“Prepare, be confident, and have an idea of what you’re going to say when an employer asks you to tell them about yourself. Practice, but don’t have it all rehearsed.”

U. S. Physical Therapy, Inc.

“What really sets students apart is if they’re well-dressed and able to introduce themselves confidently. Sometimes it’s just as simple as ‘Hi, my name is so-and-so, I’m majoring in this, tell me about your company.’ That alone shows confidence and initiative.” - Prachi Ashar, Assistant Controller

“I think the willingness to ask questions and have a conversation goes a long way. We're here to share what we do and get to know everyone a little better. We want to know where you’re at in their college experience and what you’re looking for.” - Vahe Ouzunian (BBA ‘18, MS ‘19), Financial Reporting Manager

“Something that I highly recommend students doing is researching the companies and the positions available, then putting in your application before Career Fair. Then when you go up to recruiters, you can formally introduce yourself, and they can put a face to a name. Let them know your application is out there and why you’re interested in working for them.”
