The Bauer College Graduate and Professional Programs (GPP) are committed to providing the best possible resources for students to advance their educational and career goals.
This September, the UH Graduate School will be offering a variety of professional development opportunities for graduate students from every discipline to take. These courses are designed to help students in preparing for an intensive semester of applications, research and writing.
Getting Started: Preparing
a Competitive Graduate Fellowship Application
Presented by UH Associate Dean for Graduate Studies Susan Scarrow and UH Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School Sarah Larsen.
This virtual workshop will guide you through the process of finding and preparing graduate fellowship applications, such as the NSF GRFP, AAUW and others. The workshop will also provide tips for preparing a competitive Cullen Travel Fellowship application. The workshop will be divided into three parts:
- Finding and applying for funding
- Developing your application
- Asking for letters of recommendation

Research Writing Kickstarter!
Presented by the UH Graduate College in collaboration with Dissemity.
Whether you're at the beginning stages of your writing or looking to refine your skills, this one-hour workshop can provide you with tools and activities to support your research writing process. We look forward to seeing you and supporting you on your writing journey!

Preparing to Apply for an Academic Job: Developing Your Teaching Statement
Presented by UH Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School Sarah Larsen.
Are you finishing your Ph.D. and applying for academic jobs? Learn about writing a teaching statement that reflects your teaching beliefs and experiences.
Participants will learn how to get started drafting a teaching statement, which is often required for U.S. academic job applications. Participants from all disciplines will become better prepared to communicate their teaching practice. A second, optional peer review session will be scheduled if there is sufficient interest.
