Bauer Associate Dean Awarded
UH President's Circle Award

Bauer College Associate Dean of Research and Professor of Marketing Vanessa Patrick received one of the University of Houston’s most prestigious recognitions, The President’s Circle Award, during a reception on March 31.
The President’s Circle Awards celebrate UH faculty who published high-impact journal articles
and books, received national recognition, and were awarded major grants and U.S. patents in 2023-2024, according to a university spokesperson.
Patrick, who also serves as Executive Director of Doctoral Programs (Ph.D. & DBA) at Bauer College, is being honored for her service as a Fulbright Specialist in Indonesia during the 2023-2024 school year. She conducted a month-long project at the School of Business and Management at the Institute of Technology (SBM-ITB) in Bandung.
“To be recognized with The President’s Circle Award alongside other esteemed UH faculty is a tremendous honor, and I’m truly grateful for the recognition,” Patrick said. “My Fulbright Specialist experience was immensely fulfilling on a personal and a professional level because it afforded me the opportunity to share my knowledge, experience, insight and expertise with a receptive and eager audience.”
Patrick is a consumer psychologist with expertise in self-regulation, personal leadership, everyday consumer aesthetics and inclusive design. She is President of the Society of Consumer Psychology, the premier professional association for consumer psychologists. She is also the author of "The Power of Saying No: The New Science of How to Say No that Puts you in Charge of your Life," a national best-seller.
A gifted and passionate teacher and prolific researcher, Patrick regularly shares her expertise with local, national and global media. She has served on editorial review boards for some of the most prestigious academic journals in Marketing.
She is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research and Engaged Management Review Journal and has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Consumer Psychology and the Journal of Retailing.
Popular accounts of her work have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Los Angeles Times, BusinessWeek, Fast Company, Forbes, The Huffington Post and The Washington Post.
Patrick and co-author Candice Hollenbeck of the University of Georgia received the 2022-2023 American Marketing Association Consumer Behavior Special Interest Group (CBSIG) annual Research in Practice Award for their paper, “Designing for All: Consumer Response to Inclusive Design,” published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology. She was also a finalist for the 2023 AMA EBSCO Responsible Research in Marketing award.
