Giving Back with Bauer Grad Programs
Graduate & Professional Programs Give Back with Thanksgiving Donation Drive
‘Tis the season for giving, and the Bauer College Office of Graduate & Professional Programs (GPP) is giving back in a big way with a Thanksgiving Donation Drive.
From Nov. 10 - 26, GPP will be accepting donations of food, household items and school supplies.
All contributions will be donated to the University of Houston Cougar Cupboard, which gives back to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at UH.
This is the first year GPP is partnering with the Cougar Cupboard, but not their first time giving back to the community.
Every holiday season, the office does something to give back, whether volunteering at the Houston Food Bank or packaging meals to pass out to those in need, MBA & MS Student Experience Program Manager Adebambo (Bam) Siwoniku said.
“What I’ve noticed as we’ve been doing things like this is the way that one little action or gesture can impact someone’s day,” he said. “If we can motivate others to join in, that’s how things get better.”
Academic Advisor Rebecca G. Newcomb sees the Cougar Cupboard as an essential part of campus life. The food pantry is an excellent resource for students living with food insecurities because of its accessibility and having supplies readily available without needing to ask for them, she said.
“We’re going to do what little we can to try and make a difference, as well as set an example for our students,” Newcomb said. “When students see us doing things like this...they start to understand the importance of community and how that’s going to affect them as they go out into their career and lives.”
Anyone who wants to make a donation can drop off their items at CBB 424 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Donations can be left under GPP’s “Thankfulness Tree,” where donors also have the option to write something they are thankful for this year.
All items will be dropped off at the Cougar Cupboard on Monday, Dec. 1 when campus reopens after Thanksgiving break.
