Fueling Carbon Emissions Research
Bauer Executive DBA Candidate Earns Prestigious UH Energy Graduate Fellows Award
A student in the C. T. Bauer College of Business Executive Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) program has been selected for a competitive fellowship to bring innovation and growth to the energy industry through research.
DBA candidate Justin Katusak is one of eight University of Houston graduate student recipients of the UH Energy Graduate Fellows Award.
"Bauer is a top tier research institute, and what better place to study energy than in Houston?"
Katusak brings a unique perspective to his studies.
Coming from an interdisciplinary background spanning law, business and public policy, his doctoral dissertation marries legal regulation with environmental awareness. In his research, he is examining how mandatory disclosure of carbon emissions can lead to emission reductions.
"When it came time to decide where I would get my executive education, it was important to me to attend a university that is doing meaningful and recognized work in the industry," Katsusak said. "Bauer is a top tier research institute, and what better place to study energy than in Houston?"
Fellows will have access to various resources through symposia organized by UH Energy throughout the year, meeting quarterly with Chevron subject matter experts.
Additionally, Katusak said he looks forward to engaging with the other graduate students in the fellowship. The expertise they bring across industry perspectives will be a valuable asset in developing his dissertation, he added.
Katusak said he hopes this opportunity will take his research to the next level. He added that he wants to continue his contributions to scholarly work so in the future, he can influence policymakers to enact regulations that reduce the carbon footprint.
"This fellowship validates all the work I've put in," Katusak said. "It is a steppingstone, not just for my dissertation, but for a future in the energy industry."
