Bauer Involvement Fair Introduces Prospective Members to Student Organizations
The C. T. Bauer College of Business encourages students to extend their learning and involvement outside the classroom, showcasing Bauer College organizations at the recent Bauer Involvement Fair.
Held biannually, the Involvement Fair gives students a chance to meet face-to-face with members of different business student organizations at the start of each semester. The event features groups focusing on different academic disciplines, as well as other identities and special interests.
“Over 4,000 students attended the event in just three days,” Associate Director of Student Engagement Jorge Arellano said. “This speaks volumes to the amount of willpower and work that the student organizations put in. Our student leaders are going to classes and to their events, and they take time to table for half a day during Involvement Fair. That is the impact of the work they do.”
Society for Human Resource Management President Katherine Martinez has connected with students at the Bauer Involvement Fair for multiple semesters, including this fall. As students made their way from table to table, Martinez said she reflected on once being in their shoes.
When she first started at Bauer College, Martinez said her goal was to get involved with at least one group.
“That was the best decision I ever made because I got opportunities that I never would have otherwise,” Martinez said. “I got both of my internships because of my organization. They helped me not only professionally, but personally grow, get out of my comfort zone and develop me to be a good candidate.”
For National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Vice President Mackenzie Askew, this semester was her first time participating on the organization side of Bauer Involvement Fair. She said their group is open to all students, and the event was a meaningful way to connect with people who are considering joining.
As a senior, Askew encouraged freshman to get involved. She said joining NABA opened opportunities in her career and allowed her to build relationships with accounting firms early.
“All the firms knew me because I would always speak up and say something at events,” Askew said. “Whenever it was time for me to apply for internships, they all knew who I was and that was all because of NABA.”
