The Bauer Involvement Fair was a one-stop-shop this fall as students met with organizations, built friendships and learned about the college’s premier programs.  

The four-day event connected students with business organizations centered around different majors, interests, cultures and more. Throughout the week, 4,572 students attended the program and spoke with groups that they were interested in. 

“Meeting the groups casually takes the pressure off and makes it less intimidating,” supply chain management junior Ashley Ramos said. “After talking to the Hispanic Business Student Organization, I became a member.” 

Finance sophomore Mahjuja Zahir represented the Business Law Society, a group she joined last year with hopes of making new friends. In the time since, she’s enjoyed being a part of a group of like-minded individuals with similar career goals. She recommends the organization to students looking for mentorship.  

“We connect our members to one of the mentors who are usually in law school or working in the profession itself,” Zahir said. “I was partnered with a law professional, and through her I managed to intern for a judge in Harris County. That taught me the public interest section of law.” 

In between meeting with interested new members, finance and accounting junior Liam Mooney reflected on joining the Finance Association himself.  

Mooney became a member during the first semester of his freshman year. At the time, he knew he wanted to major in finance, but didn’t know what area of the discipline he wanted to build his future in. 

“I've learned a lot about careers that I want to go down and careers that I don't — both lessons are important,” he said. “I ended up getting an internship during my sophomore summer with a company called Tiras Wealth Management after they came to an event. Joining FA has been a great experience.” 

Pre-business sophomore Adina Salman spoke to students at the event on behalf of Bauer Student Union.  

Initially, Salman was drawn to the organization because it’s a smaller and more intimate environment. Without a focus on one sector of business, she said the group gave her a better understanding of what to major in. 

“I was set on marketing my freshman year, but after talking to other officers, I became more interested in supply chain management,” Salman said.  

On the final day of Bauer Involvement Fair, University of Houston Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Diane Z. Chase met with organizations and attendees as a part of Provost on Tour series, an initiative where the provost visits various colleges at the university.
