Dell Connects with Bauer Talent
Bauer Alumna Gira Gomez Leads Dell’s Campus Outreach
Recruiters from Dell Technologies paid a visit to Bauer College following their appearance at the Rockwell Career Center Career Fair to share more information with students on what a future career at the organization could look like during the recent “Dell AI Day” on campus.
The day’s schedule was packed with networking and informational sessions, from coffee and donuts in the morning to an AI lunch-and-learn in the afternoon. A Dell data scientist shared best practices and considerations for artificial intelligence, and students had the opportunity to play games on Alienware devices and interact with an AI Digital Assistant so that they could see some of Dell’s products in action.
Dell campus manager and Bauer alumna Gira Gomez (BBA ‘23) led the event organization and said she was happy to be back on campus to share internship and full-time job opportunities with students.
“I know the quality and caliber of these students' work ethic. Their eagerness to do research on the companies and come with well-researched questions was what really stood out about the Bauer students.”
Gomez graduated with a degree in marketing with a certificate from the college's Program for Excellence in Selling. Her connection to the Stephen Stagner Sales Excellence Institute led her to be recruited by Dell.
“They saw the skill sets that I gained from the sales program and said, ‘We need her at Dell,’” she said.
Gomez began her career through a Service Sales internship that led to her receiving a follow up offer to a second internship as a Lead Services Sales intern. After graduation, she started as a Service Sales representative in the medium business segment. The resources in the Bauer sales program gave her the real-world experience that prepared her to excel professionally, she said.
At the Career Fair, Gomez said she was impressed by all the students she recognized from various professional development workshops she led in the weeks leading up to the event. She said she was happy to see they had taken the advice she gave them and implemented it right away.
“I know the quality and caliber of these students' work ethic,” Gomez said. “Their eagerness to do research on the companies and come with well-researched questions was what really stood out about the Bauer students.”
As an alumna, she said she is always more than happy to give back to the students. She was once in their shoes, she said, so she knows the importance of networking and taking advantage of the resources available at Bauer like the Rockwell Career Center, informational sessions and networking events that happen throughout the year.
Career Fair is only the beginning, but during recruiting season, don’t underestimate the power of networking, Gomez said.
“What helps you stand out as a candidate is building relationships, consistency in professional development and showing that you're implementing the things (recruiters) teach you,” she said.
