Bauer Student Leader Recognized Nationally

A Bauer College student has earned a $15,000 scholarship and a prestigious mentorship through a national financial planning award.

Finance senior Matthew Ogunrin is one of the 15 students selected across the nation to receive the RIA Talent Advantage Student Scholarship.

Schwab Advisor Services, in partnership with the Charles Schwab Foundation, awards this scholarship to support the future leaders of the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) industry. Along with the scholarship money, each student is paired with an established RIA mentor.

Ogunrin transferred to Bauer in Fall 2025 with an interest in personal financial planning. He previously played football at the University of Tulsa, and he carries the lessons he learned as a student athlete to his business acumen.

"I faced a lot of injuries and tough losses, but I always got back up," Ogunrin said. "That instilled in me an intentionality to succeed, as well as the discipline and perseverance to not let anything get in my way. I'm always going to work to be the best person I can be."

Ogunrin is active on campus through his involvement with student organizations and academic programs.

He said he found his community in Bauer’s Personal Financial Planning (PFP) program. As a transfer student with no business background, he didn't know what to expect. However, being surrounded by a pool of talented students who were all going through the same coursework with him inspired him to do more.

He founded the Cougar Financial Planning Society (CFPS), an organization for students interested in pursuing a career in financial planning and wealth management. They provide members with professional development and networking opportunities, as well as resources that get their résumés seen by recruiters.

In just under a year, CFPS members have already received more than 24 internship offers and more than 13 full-time job offers. Additionally, their team placed second in the UT Wealth Management Case Competition.

Ogunrin said that through this scholarship, he'll be able to focus on being a leader on campus. It will also help support him through his CFP® exam and make a seamless transition into the industry.

He is graduating in the Fall 2026 Commencement Ceremony.

"After graduation, I want to be confident in the entry-level job I've chosen," Ogunrin said. "I want to be confident in the student organization I'm leaving behind and the impact I made on Bauer."

He added: "I would tell incoming students that you have a lot of support and resources. You are at a great university that can get you where you want to go."
