Returning Bauer Students Share
Pro Tips for a Successful Semester

The start of a new semester is a chapter of new beginnings. Friends reconnect after summer break, campus life is abuzz with activity, and Bauer College welcomes all students back home.
New students joining the Bauer family this year may find the transition into college life daunting. They may not be aware of all the helpful resources available at Bauer, or that the friendly faces of returning students are there to help them find their way to Melcher Hall and the rest of the business complex on campus.
In the weeklong Back to Bauer series, students can go to Bauer’s Latest News and social media pages to learn more about campus life, tips from career coaches at Rockwell Career Center and exciting changes being implemented this year.
For new students who don’t know where to start on this journey, or for those returning who may need a little motivation, two Bauer students share key pieces of advice to help make the most out of your time at college.

Your network extends far beyond LinkedIn or any social media platform. It includes the person next to you in class, down the hall in your dorm or even parked right beside you.
While career fairs are a good start, go the extra mile by proactively cold messaging and intentionally stepping into situations that challenge your comfort zone.
Remember to listen twice as much as you speak. Embracing the wisdom of having two ears and one mouth.
Apply yourself fully to every experience and opportunity, driven by genuine passion and curiosity, not just résumé building. It is just as crucial to discover what you dislike as it is to find what you truly love.
Be curious and open-minded: attend that inspiring event, commit yourself to that impactful program or finally launch that exciting project or hobby. Do not hesitate to chase after that crazy dream you have been postponing.
Remember, no door stays shut if you are strong and determined enough to break it down.

If you changed majors or are feeling unsure, don’t think you’re late, you’re moving at your own pace and in your own time. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re behind. You’re doing your best and at the end of the day, the only person you need to make proud is yourself.
To introverts like me: don’t be afraid to network. Recruiters are people too, and they’re there to get to know you and help you. Share your story, your hobbies and how you’ve applied what you’ve learned in school. Reach out to people on LinkedIn who interest you, and invite them for a coffee or Zoom chat. The worst that can happen is they don’t reply; the best is that you gain valuable insights, grow your network and get your name out there to land your dream job!
