AI Expert Rises in Rank

Meng Li Named Chair of Department of Decision & Information Sciences

The C. T. Bauer College of Business has named professor and artificial intelligence expert Meng Li as chair of the Department of Decision & Information Sciences, effective Sept. 1.

Li joined the Bauer College faculty in 2021. He has taught various supply chain management courses to students, primarily at the undergraduate level. As DISC Chair, Li will lead supply chain management, management information systems and business analytics faculty members.

“We have been a leading department in supply chain management and management information systems,” Li said. “We’ve ranked very high in the nation and recognized in the world as well. I'm looking forward to working with great people.”

Li concurrently serves as the endowed C. T. Bauer Chair of AI. He is the founding director of Bauer’s Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Institute, guiding its research and educational efforts since the institute’s inception.

“In the department level we have information systems and business analytics,” he said. “We can try our best to integrate AI in our department; I think that's unique advantage of me being in both positions.”

During his time at Bauer, Li has been an active researcher, focusing on managerial behavior and human-algorithm interaction. He has several publications related to supply chain and AI forthcoming.

“Research is our key,” Li said. “We have been ranked consistently for research productivity in top-tier journals. We will try to enhance that and emphasize research.”

Li is succeeding Norman Johnson, who will take on a new role as the Bauer Honors faculty adviser.
