A True Greatness

Finance Junior Wins Scholarship for Ted Bauer Day Essay

Finance junior Makayla Jefferson wrote the essay below, which was chosen as the winning entry for a scholarship during Bauer College's Ted Bauer Day festivities. Students were asked to write an essay using the prompt, “Because Ted Bauer Gave, I ...”

Because Ted Bauer gave, I have been allowed to pay forward his legacy of generosity and support. As a peer mentor to business transfer students in the Emerging Leaders Academic Success Program (ELASP) and Vice President of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), I am deeply grateful for Ted Bauer's legacy, which continues to power our quest for excellence.

At our esteemed university's Bauer College of Business, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of Ted Bauer's contributions. His commitment to education and philanthropy is a guiding light as we strive to create an environment where tomorrow's business leaders can thrive and succeed.

The history of Ted Bauer is more than inspirational. One of the most visible representations of Ted Bauer's generosity is Melcher Hall, the home of Bauer College, which underwent a complete renovation to create a downtown corporate ambiance that amazes recruiters and guests whenever they visit. The AIM Center is a testament to Ted Bauer's commitment to greatness; with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology, it is one of the best places in Bauer to sit down and enjoy the scenery.

Beyond the physical transformation, Ted Bauer's gift touched thousands of lives, inspiring unparalleled support from corporations, alums, and individuals. Business corporations and other contributors further improve the academic and research capabilities of Bauer College.

As the Vice President of NABA, I have strived to embody the spirit of giving that Ted Bauer exemplifies. With the resources made available through his generosity, our organization has expanded its reach and provided invaluable support to underrepresented students pursuing careers in accounting and finance. From organizing professional development workshops to facilitating networking opportunities with industry leaders, every initiative undertaken by NABA is a testament to Ted Bauer's belief in the power of education to uplift communities.

Moreover, my job in ELASP For Transfers as a Peer Mentor to business transfer students has allowed me to directly impact the lives of those navigating the unfamiliar terrain of our university and within Bauer College. Ted Bauer's commitment to fostering a supportive academic environment resonates deeply with me as I guide these students through the challenges of adapting to our esteemed institution. Whether letting them know about info sessions regarding their major, offering advice on on-campus resources and events, or simply lending a listening ear, I am more than happy by the opportunity to serve as a source of guidance and encouragement to my fellow students.

Ted Bauer's unwavering commitment to education and philanthropy is a beacon of hope for aspiring students and future leaders. His legacy reminds us that true greatness lies not in wealth or accolades, but in the lives we touch and the positive impact we leave behind.

Because of Ted Bauer, I am reminded of our profound responsibility to give back to our communities and uplift those in need.
