Meet Class 12 of RED Labs Summer Accelerator Program
Entrepreneurs will work this summer on business plans for massive cookies, redefined golf fashion, smart automated plant care and grocery accessibility for shoppers with chronic health conditions through RED Labs, the startup accelerator housed in the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business.
The 12-week Summer Accelerator Program is designed to accelerate businesses and business ideas of UH students, faculty and recent alumni through entrepreneurship curriculum sessions, legal office hours to advise on issues including intellectual property and incorporation, and one-on-one mentorship and access to a pool of mentors. This summer's group marks the 12th class of the program, which is offered jointly with Rice University's business accelerator, OwlSpark.
"RED Labs provides a great launching point for these businesses," RED Labs Managing Director Liana Gonzalez said. "They work week after week learning, iterating and refining. I never know what businesses will compose the cohort, only that they will be innovative and exciting."
The program culminates with Bayou Startup Showcase, a demo day where teams pitch their business plans to the Houston startup community, on Aug. 1.
